A big thanks
to Anna, Monica and Kjell and the rest of the Committee and friends of The
Burn Valley Linedance Club for a TERRIFIC weekend in Malmo
Sweden. Jan and I along with The
Westcoasters were invited to Burn Valley's 5th year Anniversary
Celebration. We had a great time and met up with a number of friends
who had been to our dance festivals in the past in Clacton and made many
new friends. 22 of
our club members joined us for the weekend.
Anna had
booked us all into the very nice 'Jagersro Hotel' just on the outskirts
of Malmo (click here for
link to hotel) and not far from the venue at Svedala. Friday
evening we were all taken to a very nice restaurant for a meal before
going to the workshop / social for the evening.
They had arranged to have Caisa Jansson an Instructor from Stockholm to
teach a few dances on the Friday evening and the rest of the evening was
dance time with Kjell on the disco. Caisa taught 3 dances Picking
the Trash, Crazy and Only You.
On Saturday
Mark did the workshop between 2pm- 5pm teaching four dances Plain
Spanish, Dime a Dance, Invisible Touch and
East to West. Our
Swedish friends had been roasting the pig on a spit all afternoon outside
ready for the meal in the evening. 100 people sat down for a lovely
meal amongst laughter and outbreaks of singing drinking songs. The
Saturday evening social started with Mark DJing playing a mixture for
everyone, most of the dances were the same as here in the UK. The UK
group 'The Westcoasters' had also made the trip to Sweden for the
evening social. They went down a storm, they were great fun as usual, the
Swedish dancers looked amazed at some of the bands antics but laughed and
danced a lot - what more can you say.
The Sunday was a sight seeing day before our flight back to Stansted, so
most of us 'Caleys' ended up drivng the short distance over to Copenhagen
to the Tivoli Gardens theme park. We all really enjoyed that as
well. Anna George Asa, Monica who had been giving lifts in
cars to those from our group who hadn't hired a car to the events Friday
and Saturday and from the airport on Friday were on hand again to say
goodbye at the airport. Before departing from the Hotel, we had a
photo opportunity with our Swedish friends and they presented Jan and I
with Teddies and Burn Valley jackets which was a lovely surprise and very
much appreciated.
In
conclusion, the event in
Sweden
was absolutely brilliant; our Swedish friends made us all so welcome and
looked after us with great food, accommodation and dancing.
We had some real laughs over the weekend and it has certainly
cemented our friendship.
A
Big thanks to everyone and hopefully we will make the trip again |
